friction

Noun. Any on-page element or required user action that decreases the probability of a conversion. For example, requiring a user-to click through to a second page before the conversion opportunity presents itself is friction. Or, including a popup ad on a page intended to produce signups or sales increases friction. Friction is a user experience issue, although some search engines may attempt to measure friction.
